Maps & drawings by the author. A fascinating history of the King Ranch, the biggest and most famous ranch in Texas. Founded in1853, a sea Captain, Richard King, purchased an oasis in the Wild Horse Desert of South Texas, and it is still running today, raising quality cattle and horses as well as agricultural products such as cotton and turfgrass. It is comprised of 855,000 acres, and pretty much was the beginning of ranching as we know it in the U.S.
